Almost a year ago, our good friends Brent and Jennifer moved from Southern California to Idaho. Since they have had plenty of time to settle in, we decided to pay them a visit. So bright and early Friday morning, we loaded the car and headed north to Boise. Dan and I switched off driving and entertaining Riley. For the most part, Riley did great! However Elmo’s World is a good thing to keep on hand in case of emergencies! The main form of entertainment on the first leg of the trip, while Daddy was in the backseat, was taking pictures for Riley to look at on the camera.
One of our two stops was in The Mucc (a.k.a. Winnemucca) to eat lunch and swap driving. Then back on the road, only stopping again in Jordan Valley for a quick diaper and driver change. When we got to Boise, Jennifer had a few late meetings, we hung out with Brent and Steven (Jennifer’s brother visiting from So Cal). Riley was exhausted, so we got him fed and in bed while Brent made dinner. By the time we were done eating, Jennifer was home and the two of us made a trip to Goody’s, a very cute ice cream parlor and candy store. Very tasty!
Saturday morning, the guys went for a golfing outing at Falcon Crest Golf Course. Jennifer and I stayed home with Riley. As a special treat, Jennifer made homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast!
The guys took Riley to the pool when they got back, while Jenn and I (along with her friend Ashley) hit up the street market in downtown. Very cute and quaint, a lot less people than the typical farmer’s market in Sparks so it was much more enjoyable! We made a few purchases and shared the most delicious crepe! Saturday afternoon we made another trip to Goody’s as a group so Dan could check it out (and so I could get another sundae).
Riley hung out in the toy area (once again trying to convince his Daddy to get him a new toy, with no luck) while we ordered.
Went home for dinner, put Riley to bed, the guys went out to play basketball and the girls spent the evening chatting.
Sunday was a little more of the same. The guys had an early tee time and Riley hung out at home with the girls. Once again, Jennifer made us a delicious homemade breakfast, this time it was French toast! Riley also loved munching on Jennifer’s fruit snacks, but would only eat the red ones!
We picked up lunch at Westside Drive In, which had been featured on Drive Ins, Diners and Dives on Food Network. Brent thinks they have the best French fries in all of Boise. Their chocolate milkshakes weren’t too bad either!
After lunch, Daddy took Riley swimming for a bit while everyone else took naps. Then Daddy and Riley came by to get Brent and Jennifer (I was still sleeping) and headed off to the park.
By the time they got back, I was awake. The guys went out target shooting for a bit while Jennifer made a taco dinner and peach cobbler for dessert. Very impressive!
Monday morning Riley hung out while we got everything loaded to head back home. On the road by 9:00am and regaining an hour (going back to pacific time) made the drive seem a lot faster! On the road by 9:00am and regaining an hour (going back to pacific time) made the drive seem a lot faster! However, the entire time I kept thinking how good the cobbler was the night before. Even though we were exhausted by the time we got home, I had to make a cobbler! This was the first time I had ever done a cobbler and was pretty pleased!
We had an amazing time hanging out with wonderful people! We know it can be a little overwhelming having people with kids come visit and take over when you are a childless couple. Thanks Brent and Jennifer for making all three of us feel very comfortable and right at home! It is also awesome Brent likes to document events with photos and is good about sharing, because for the most part the only pictures from our camera are from the drive up, everything else was courtesy of Brent!
