Redmond Derby Days

This weekend we took part in the 71st Annual Redmond Derby Days! It's a local summer tradition that came to life at the end of the Depression. Derby Days began as a drive to raise money for downtown holiday decorations and school athletic equipment. It is now the nation's longest running bicycle race.

The fun started Friday afternoon. Since the weekend events were scheduled to be at different locations throughout the downtown area, we decided to scope things out. Then it was back home to get started on decorating Riley and Delaney’s rides for the Kids Parade. With eight categories to choose from, we decided on the red, white and blue theme. Daddy took over the project and did a great job! Dad 5 - CopyDerby Days Vehicles 1 - Copy

Saturday morning started early with a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs at the firehouse. All proceeds go to the RFD Benevolent Fund which supports Redmond residents facing personal tragedy. They also let the kids tour fire trucks, spray water on a mock fire and try on real firefighter gear.Mom & Riley 13 - CopyRiley 7 - CopyDad, Riley & Delaney 5 - CopyDad & Riley 2 - CopyRiley 5 - CopyDelaney 4 - Copy

Next was the Kids Parade. At registration, both kids were given huge goodie bags filled with all sorts of things, all of which went along with their red, white and blue theme. Riley had a blast riding his tricycle all over the place. Delaney was a natural, she loved waving and saying hi to the crowds. The kids were completely wiped out after the Kids Parade, so we headed home for lunch and naps.Delaney 7 - CopyMom, Riley & Delaney 5 - CopyRiley 14 - Copy
